Always choose a woman with angles.
I had the opportunity to experiment with low key lighting. This was a huge step outside my comfort zone to say the least. But I'm beginning to really like the results that I am seeing and wondering why I didn't try this years ago.

I took this photo at my home studio. Since I'm self taught it was more of an experiment in dabbling with low key lighting.Time
This shot was taken in the late morning on a beautiful fall day in early October 2019.Lighting
Since my home studio has a lot of nature light I needed to get a dark background. I purchased a couple of black king sized bed sheets and covered the background and table. I used a light stand with a Speedlight and a MagSphere placed behind the background.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon 7D Mark II, Sigma 24-70mm, Speedlight, MagSphere and a tripod.Inspiration
I had been wanting to try low key lighting for sometime. I mentioned this to my girlfriend and she said "let's do it".Editing
I shot in RAW so I adjusted the contrast in Lightroom and then converted the shot to a jpg.In my camera bag
The obvious choice for me is my Canon 7D Mark II. While it's a crop sensor body it's just wonderful to shoot most photo with. It's fast, reliable and great for low light. My favorite lens is my Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 EX lens. I find it hard to not take a great picture with it. The clarity and colors are amazing. Then there is my Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 EX lens. I take most of sports photos with it. The glass is fast and very reliable.Feedback
Never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and experiment, you just never know how the shot is going to turn out. It may look great, it may look bad but regardless of the outcome just take a chance. Success doesn't come to those that play it safe. No risk no reward.
