My first attempt at photographing the Flying Scotsman on its way to Worcester didn't quite work. Although I got a half decent image by most comments on it, I failed to photograph it as I had planned, I captured its whistle on video as it passed in front of me near the Norton Rail Junction, Worcestershire but it wasn't what I had expected.
The reason it didn't work is explained in detail here https:--youtu.be--jlMHcQH3zE
but ultimately it was down to my choice of focal length being too short and I was positioned too far away from the rail tracks thus making the main subject of my image very small and difficult to see in the resulting image.
Thankfully a second opportunity to photograph the Flying Scotsman would present itself later that afternoon, as the return journey would pass through the village of Fladbury Nr Evesham in Worcestershire on its way to its destination that being London Paddington train station
Having found a suitable position, in a field close to the tracks, a little up from the level crossing I setup ready to take my second shot and my final chance of photographing this iconic steam locomotive. Success was to be mine.
Interestingly enough the resulting image of the Flying Scotsman 2019 At Speed With Whistle went on to be featured in the local news papers and online publications, so what turned out to be a fail, resulted in success.
Comments, suggestions always welcome.
