Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Tucson High School in Tucson, Arizona during a photo shoot for student athletes.

Time

This was an evening indoor shot.

Lighting

I used an off camera flash for this shoot. Jacob is an athlete so I wanted dramatic lighting.

Equipment

This was shot with at Sony A7III with a Tamron E 28-75mm F2.8 lens and an off camera flash.

Inspiration

This is my son Jacob. This photo was actually a happy accident. I was at his school to take photos of student athletes. We were taking shots to get the lighting dialed in and Jacob was helping me before the actual photo shoot began. This ended up being my favorite shot of the night.

Editing

I always use Lightroom. For this shot I bumped contrast up to get a more dramatic effect.

In my camera bag

Sony A7III with the Tamron E 28-75mm F2.8 lens is my go to setup for everyday shooting.

Feedback

Play with lighting angles do get dramatic lighting effects. We moved the flash around quite a bit until we found something that we liked. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. Most of my favorite photos were "discovered" through this process of experimentation. Happy shooting!
