I took this picture on a small brook, close to a lake where i did see this adult male and his family, the female and two babys, every day. So i decided to make some family pictures of them. This day i wasn´t carefully enough and he catched me away. So i decided to come back next day because i liked the light on this tree-fringed watercourse.Time
I was there early in the morning. I´ve known that they woke up and then they go to swim and take their breakfast. So i should have enough time to hide me in the underwood in front of their nest. And then ... i had to wait. It was dark, but not cold and I had no chance with my equipment to take a picture before the sun came up. This picture finally i made at 11 a.m..Lighting
The sun was high enough to put her light in between of the trees on the water, lightly behind of the swan.Equipment
Nikon D300s with Nikkor 70-300 4,5-5,6 .And a mat against the humidity from the earth under me.Inspiration
Everything. The proudness of this animal, his wild action and the light from above and behind. After the first day, and i made this game for 4 days, and after evaluation of my token pictures, i tried to shoot this with the best alignment possible. At the end i wasn´t really happy about the quality of the image and the possibility given by my eqipment, but those 2 minutes where he "danced" i feeled fantastic to be there and see him moving like this.Editing
Sure i did. I had no other possibility. ISO 1600 on F 5,6 with my older camera permitted no high quality shot. Shot in RAW and photoshoped. Color channel calculations, masks and something more.In my camera bag
My D300s, my 500 f4 - i bought this after the swan sessions , heavy but i love it ;) , my Nikkor 50 /1,4 and my 17-70 makro. If i make longer trips or in dirty weather conditions i take my D90 with me too. I have a light tripod on the side and for the darker hours cable release, stopwatch and my mud-mat anytime. And some filters ...Feedback
Go on the toilet before you start :) Stay calm and don´t force something special. The time you stay in nature is fullfilled with little wonders. Enjoy! And stay with the mobile phone out of your hands!
