This photo was taken in my home town of Sunderland, this was a breezy night and gave the the clouds some movement.Time
This was taken on a cold night in November with quite a strong breeze so I was well wrapped up and had the shot worked out before leaving home.Lighting
It was fairly quiet on the roads so gave me plenty of time to get setup as I knew I needed to be in the middle of the road. I wanted to have the light trails from both sides of me with the spire of the bridge lights in the centre of the scene.Equipment
This was taken with my D810 in manual, F8, ISO 100, Shutter 8/1, On a tripod.Inspiration
This is a new bridge in the city of Sunderland and I have followed its construction process from the beginning. This has been a good project for me and even better to be on my doorstep, in previous shots I have taken have been sunrise, sunset, night, fog, and a flyover by the Red Arrows to name a few. This was a nighttime shot I wanted to get in the bag with the traffic moving on either side of me with the spire taking center stage. I think the added bonus was the fact a police van took to the bridge on cue and gave a bit more interest to the light trails.Editing
I processed this shot in Lightroom where I reduced the highlights and increased the shadows after that there was not a great deal to do on light trail shots apart from making sure the image is clean. In my camera bag
I always have my trusty D810 and D5 with two Nikon lenses 24/70 and 70/200 tripod and monopod are always in my vehicle. I only fill my bag with the items that are needed as dividing time for work and play falls mostly on work and not much time for my photography. I have a wide range of lenses filters etc and love going from sports landscape macro and anything between that gives me a challenge.Feedback
I try to plan my photography to the best of my ability with so little time I have to plan well. I would say always be on the lookout for places and items of interest and get out there. In this Spire image, I had planned to take light trails so a long exposure was always going to need a good tripod, and standing in the center of the bridge was going to require a quieter time for traffic safety-wise and also not letting the light trails overpowering the spire of the bridge itself. Whatever you do enjoy your time out there and take on a challenge it's great fun.
