Location
This photo was taken in the art district of Minneapolis. We wandered around the city that afternoon stopping to take photos. I saw a cute little tree and ask the model to stand behind it as I knew it would make the color of her eyes pop!Time
This was taken around 2pm. Not my favorite time of day to shoot, but with the tall buildings surrounding us I could find little pockets of beautiful soft light.Lighting
Some of tall city buildings actually served well as giant reflectors depending on where I positioned the model. This is what helped in giving a slight golden hue to her skin.Equipment
I shot this image with a NikonD4 and a Sigma Art 85mm only using natural light.Inspiration
I like unique photos and try to think of different ways to use whatever nature is around you when shooting. The color of the tree perfectly matched the models eyes and inspired me with the idea of her standing behind the branch drawing the viewer in.Editing
I use ACR and Photoshop for all post-processing. FS for skin and different layers of color balance and curves for toning and contrast. In my camera bag
These days I have been solely using my Sony a7iii along with Sigma Art 85mm or Sigma Art 135mm.Feedback
Be creative and do what you love. Don’t worry about what others think and instead follow your own vision. This is the way to let your true artist within break free :)
