Behind The Lens

Location

The photo featuring model Nabhia was taken in Platform3 studios Cork.

Time

The photo was taken in the evening around 7pm in the Autumn

Lighting

This is a simple two light setup. A kicker light camera left behind the madel to light the hair and the key light was a large octobox camera right.

Equipment

Equipment used: Canon 6D. Canon 70 to 200mm II lens handheld. Light BRX500s. Key light set for F8 at ISO 100 at 160th of a second of memory serves.

Inspiration

This was part of a course I did in platform3. I wanted a close up of Nabiha because she was wearing unusual blue contacts. Her eye colour is a beautiful natural brown.

Editing

Yes I softened up the skin, brightened her eyes to make them pop more and finished off with a dodge and burn which helped to bring out the eyes, skin and the necklace.

In my camera bag

Canon 6D Canon 24mm to 105mm, Canon 70mm to 200mm ii. Sekonic L-758DR light meter, two Canon 580EX II and pocket wizard iii's

Feedback

Take your time and don't feel rushed to get the shot. Envisage in your mind what you want beforehand helps a lot. Talk to the model and make them feel comfortable.
