Location
This shot was taken on the upper levels of the Plateau of Telluride Colorado.Time
My friend and travel companion and I were up at 6 am to get into the mountains before the Sun could melt the dusting of snow which fell the night before. This particular segment also showed a large number of Elk prints and Droppings so we were hoping for some Elk shots. This shot was taken at 8:41 am. At noon most of the snow was gone and no Elk greeted us.Lighting
Crystal clear air (and cold) made for really good lighting as the Sun Rose. By 11 am the contrast had become to great to capture in digital format we forsake the HDR route.Equipment
Camera was Nikon D4 with a Nikkor 28-300mm zoom set at 28mm. Iso was 1000 , shutter speed 1/125 of sec, f11 aperture. Gitzo Tripod and Really Right Stuff ball head.Inspiration
My friend and I were on a week long photo excursion looking for scenes such as this. He is a Landscape Fine Art Photographer and has made his living for 20 years selling prints. We both have reached an age where travilling and hiking alone is not advisable. When presented with a scene such as this it would be folly to not shoot the heck out of it. Probably have 50+ images from this one shooting session alone. This is my favorite.Editing
Simple curves and levels adjustments in Lightroom. Usually add some Vibrance and Clarity and were I to rework it today I might try some Dehaze. In my camera bag
D5, D850 and Z7 are my current camera's and I own a fairly large assortment of lenses. Depends on the assignment.Feedback
Study the weather and terrain and be aware of the possibilities. We both have been to Colorado several times and were there in Late September and Early October to have the Aspens "In Color". It is also when snow starts appearing especially in the mountain peaks and frequently for short periods in the early morning. Our trip was preplanned for the time of year where this type of scenery is most likely to be found.
