Behind The Lens
Location
After the wedding, we wanted to take a few outdoor couples shots but unfortunately the venue was in the city (Memphis) with no good locations around. There was this street next to the venue with just one street light and I decided to do something different.Time
This was shot around 9pm.Lighting
It was pretty dark and I used only one flash which was placed behind the couple. Actually an assistant was holding the flash and hiding behind the couple.Equipment
This shot was handheld using a Canon 5D Mark III, a 35mm 1.4 lens and a speed light.Inspiration
Great locations always make easy for beautiful romantic shots but how about using a rundown street and turning it romantic? I love urban areas and the charm of streets in cities and such locations inspire me to create something different.Editing
The photo was shot in low ISO, just 400. Many would think that it would have been higher but I wanted low ISO and increased the exposure in LR, increased some shadows etc.In my camera bag
I always have my two cameras, Canon 5D Mark III and a backup Canon 70D. Lens are 24-105, 35, 70-200. Have a Canon speedlight in my bag apart from a lot of batteries and a lens cleaning cloth.Feedback
Hold your breath if not using a tripod. A lens with image stabilization would help if shooting with low shutter speed (shot this photo at 1/50th of a second but IS helped). The flash output should also be low to give just a hint of backlight that mimics a light from a source behind.
