A Nutmeg Mannikin (Lonchura punctulata), a.k.a. Spice Finch. A native of Sth Asia, it was introduced into Australia in the 19th Century as an aviary bird. Since then, it has escaped and now colonises a stretch of the east coast from Victoria up into Queensland. It prefers grasslands along waterways, roadsides, disturbed ground and generally urbanised habitats.
