Behind The Lens

Location

The start of the eclipse. I took this out doors in the middle of my street Chapel Hill, NC USA During the Eclipse of 2017. #eclipse #eclipse2017

Time

The exact day 8/21/2017 and time 13:09:51. I didn't have a choice as it was shot as it was happening!

Lighting

Just used natural light, everything worked out.

Equipment

Canon EOS 7D MK II EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM on tripod ISO 200 Focal Length 400mm Exposure1/60 @ f/5.6 I had purchased a Marumi 77mm Solar Eclipse ND100000 Filter DHG ND 16.5 Stop for the eclipse which I used to take this and my other shots of the eclipse. According to what I was reading online I had to use live view on my camera to view the sun for the shot and to shoot safely.

Inspiration

I wanted to try and shoot the eclipse that was crossing part of the state. Being unable to travel I had to be satisfied with what I was able to capture of the eclipse.

Editing

I shoot in RAW so I did convert it in Lightroom to JPEG and also cropped it a bit. I don't recall any editing as it has been about 10 months since I took these pictures.

In my camera bag

My camera and several lenses, extra batteries, flash, microfiber cloth, Lenspens and probably more stuff that I should go through and weed out.

Feedback

I read a lot of info regarding the eclipse online from safety for your eyes, to protecting your camera your lenses during the eclipse. I would suggest read up on taking pictures of eclipses and what is needed and of course protecting your eyes!
