Behind The Lens

Location

Cape Town. On the curb of a road on the way down to Camps Bay.

Time

Evening time. Just as the sun was setting.

Lighting

The inspiration for the photo was the lighting itself. The mist in the distance and the ways the sun was reflecting off the mountaintops was phenomenal. The lighting created a depth to the picture that allowed me to capture an image that represented the reality in a powerful and beautiful way.

Equipment

I used my iPhone 6s to take the photo as well as a Canon 7D.

Inspiration

The inspiration for the photo was the utter beauty of the view. As soon as I had caught a glimpse of it on the road I asked to pull over to stop and pause to breathe it in. In real life it was spectacular and was a moment I never wanted to forget. With new found friends surrounding me, this was a precious moment. It almost allowed me to see with perspective and clarity about the past and future and to dream big once again.

Editing

I used VSCO and photoshop to edit the photo.

In my camera bag

I will always have my phone at the ready as it can take amazing quick snaps and then sometimes I have a Canon too. Depending on the moment.

Feedback

Think about what picture you’d like to capture and why. Then think about the sort of angle with which you’d like to take it, as an angle can tell a lot about a moment and change the aesthetic really easily. For lighting, think about where the light is falling. If it is behind you the picture will be well lit. However if it’s in front, the foreground will be a silhouette. However, overall enjoy the moment, breathe it in and when you capture the picture think about one thing that you relate to the photo that you’d like to live on!
