Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my friend David ‘s Place.

Time

This was probably early evening as I remember that we first shot a natural light set during golden hour and then went inside.

Lighting

Lighting is very simple. It is a beauty dish placed slightly above eye level. The camera is directly underneath the dish. That explains the very thin shadow under her chin and around her arms.

Equipment

Fujifilm XT-1 with a 18-55 zoom I believe

Inspiration

This was one shot in a series of shots done with this lighting setup. I am particularly fond of this composition.

Editing

Minimal post in Lightroom and the “Portraiture” plug-in for Photoshop

In my camera bag

Fujifilm XT-1, XE-2 as backup. Also a Fujifilm X100S for the leaf shutter. I have the Fujifilm 35 f1.4 and 56 f1.2 primes, along with the Fujifilm 18-55 zoom and 50-140 zoom. The 50-140 is probably my most used lens.

Feedback

Just experiment with different modifiers and lighting setups til you find what you like. This is a harder light which can look quite good. Keeping the lens close to the modifier keeps the shadows thin.
