Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the hot air balloon, while flying over the Goreme National Park in Turkey.

Time

It's a morning shot. All balloon flights are available early in the morning, while weather is calm with no heavy winds due to the air temperature changing.

Lighting

I was lucky to catch soft morning sunlight, which gave the shot volume and shapes indication.

Equipment

Photo was made with Nikon D810 + Nikkor 200-500mm., f5.6 lens.

Inspiration

I was trying to make photo of the incredible landscape of the Goreme valleys and these three balloons perfectly fit into that.

Editing

Some minor light and color correction in Photoshop is made.

In my camera bag

For this exact shot you need just a camera with one lens. It is not recommended to change lenses during the flight, so in case if you still need to use more than one lens, take them fixed on the another cameras.

Feedback

In order to make this kind of shot, try to check if there is good weather for the balloons in Goreme area, because flights are strictly controlled by the local authorities and bad weather can cause restriction for many days in row. Keep your camera fixed by the strap and catch the light!
