Behind The Lens

Location

The image was taken in London on the northern side of the Thames, i have been self teaching since 1977 then transfering to digital in 2006 which was a big learning curve

Time

I Remember this so well, 31/12/16 I was there to shoot the new years eve firework display in London (I have an image of that in my portfolio) after the event i waited for the crowds to this, turned and saw the Shard were putting on their own light show so i snapped away some of the speed boats had been stirring up the river hence why it looks choppy.

Lighting

I Just loved the way the Shard and Waterloo bridge were lit up all i had to do was capture that moment without burning out the lights.

Equipment

i used a Nikon D750 which i'd only had for 2 months i was so pleased with the results i also used a Mafrotto tripod

Inspiration

i was inspired by the moment, i am very much an emotive photographer .

Editing

i did do some post but minimal decreased highlights, increased shadow detail and saturarion, plus a little contrast.

In my camera bag

Depends what i'm going out to shoot if its city or land scapes then nikon d750 a Tamron 17-35 and 24-70mm if i'm out shooting wildlife thed its the nikon d500 with the Tamron 150-600mm.

Feedback

i've found that nikon cant handle over exposed highlights so i under expose to the point shadows are virtually black then bring them back in post.
