Love that the white yacht puts it all in perspective as to the scale of the mountain behind.

Location
This is a photo I took this photo while on a cruise around Milford sound, in New Zealand. The weather was wild as you would expect in a place where it rains 300 days a year and the average rainfall is 8 metres a year!Time
This was taken just before lunch time. The boat was just getting slowing down to serve lunch, when I spotted the small white cruiser in the distance against the spectacular scenery. I made my way onto the outside deck....it was still raining slightly but now a heavy mist was coming in. The light was fading as the mist came in so worked quickly, taking a few hand held shots at F 5.6 at 140mm.Lighting
The light was fading quickly as thick mist started coming in as well as a light drizzle. What I noticed was small pockets of light coming thru the mist and clouds sporadically, so I timed my shots to the light as the clouds briefly separated. It was fairly dark too, so I decided to spot focus, emphasizing the light on the white boat in the distance.Equipment
I used my Fuji Xt2 with my favourite/standard lens, the 50-140mm. This is a thing of beauty, it's got a great stabilizer built in and is sharp. I keep it on my camera as a default. The camera and the lens were water resistant too, which is important at Milford Sound, because it is raining nearly all the time. Otherwise, bring a few plastic bags to wrap around the lens.Inspiration
The vast and beautiful landscape of New Zealand would inspire anyone. It is amazing with lush scenery, waterfalls around every corner, and large mountains rising into the mist. All combined with lush dense vegetation.Editing
This was one of the few photos that I had a good idea exactly how it would turn out before hand. The problems taking this shot was that the back of the boat I was on was rocking, it was raining and mist was coming in. So it was light issues mainly. I process in Capture One, and was able to lighten up the centre of the photo with the white boat, and also using clarity and sharpening, was able to cut thru the light rain and mist with sharpening, clarity and contrast, as well opening up the shadows which was critical here. I remember using contrast and clarity and seeing the small white boat pop into view, instead of being flat and blurry. I knew then that the photo was good....it needed that small boat to have clarity to add scale to the photo. In my camera bag
I travel light, and generally have 2 lenses with my Fuji Xt2, the 50-140mm and the 16-55mm. When I am looking for bird photos I use the 100-400mm, possibly combined with the x2 adaptor for extra reach.Feedback
As the boy scouts say...be prepared! Keep the camera on you all the time, make you you turn your setting back to what they were if you are taking an unusual shot. Be ready to shoot quickly because everything changes, the weather can change in an instant. Be aware of light dimming. I have my camera on a military rifle sling....this is a single point sling with bungee cord built in for sponginess, and it goes over your shoulder and down the side instead of hanging around your neck. If your camera/ lens is not waterproofed, take a few plastic bags with you.
