For the whole day, the sun was behind the clouds with sporadic drizzling until early evening. Hoping to push my luck, I set up my equipment at this spot and waited. As the sun slowly drifted near the horizon, the clouds gradually parted and the scene before me came to life as the setting sun burst out its intense golden rays from behind, only to disappear again a few moments later.

Location
This was taken at Tunnel View in Yosemite National Park.Time
It was late afternoon when I reached. I have always heard the beauty of Yosemite and truth be told, I was blown away at the number of picturesque spots across the entire national park. California is literally on the other side of the world for me but I wasn't disappointed.Lighting
For the entire day, the sun was behind the clouds with sporadic drizzling until late afternoon. As the sun slowly drifted near the horizon, the clouds gradually parted and the scene before me came to life as the setting sun shone its intense golden rays from behind, only to disappear again a few moments later.Equipment
This was shot on the Nikon D700 with the AFS 24-70 f/2.8. Tripod was the Gitzo G1541T travel tripod which has been following me for the past 10 years. A GND filter was also used to balance the exposure of the sky and foreground.Inspiration
As mentioned above, I have heard about the beauty of Yosemite for many years and so grabbed the opportunity when my family suggested visiting California. The Tunnel View can be considered a classic view that has been shot umpteen times by many photographers and tourists, but still, it is a must-visit spot if you go to Yosemite.Editing
I tend not to do too much processing other than basic edits such as colour correction, contrast, highlight and shadows etc.In my camera bag
For travel photos, I always bring a body (recently it has been the D850), 35mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4 and the AFS 14-24mm f/2.8. I try to keep filters to a minimum with a circular polariser and an ND filter for long exposure shotsFeedback
I would suggest letting the time of the day dictate my shooting. I always get the best images either very early in the morning or late afternoon just before the sun sets until blue hour. Even when the weather isn't ideal, be on your toes as lighting conditions can change in an instant. Sometimes less than ideal conditions produce some of the best photos :)
