This photo was taken in a hotel room in Paris. I loved the natural light in that room.Time
Early afternoon on a summer day a few years ago. It was probably the hottest day of that summer. I had to open one of the windows in order to avoid unwanted shadows on the face and I remember how quickly it got super hot inside so I could only take a few photos before having to close the window and turn up the AC.Lighting
I loved the contrast that the natural light coming from the window created. While normally the golden hour is better for portraits, I found the somewhat harsher light perfect for this vintage vibe I wanted and I love how it turned out.Equipment
We just came back from the city and both our cameras were dead, I didn't have time to wait for the battery to charge so I just used my phone's camera while charging it from the external battery, because it was also almost dead.Inspiration
I was doing my friend's hair by the window and I loved how well the light was working with the entire look but even more than the visual, I loved the overall vibe.Editing
I wanted to give it a vintage feel and this b&w mixed with some sepia worked best. I removed some shadows from the face and brightened it because I wanted more contrast with the dark, textured and slightly messy hair.In my camera bag
It depends on what I'm planning to shoot but besides the camera and a few lenses, I found that a tripod can be very useful in many situations, so I will almost always have one with me. Even if I'm sure I won't need it, I still take a small one. When it comes to portraits, I'm not a pro, but a reflector it's definitely a must-have.Feedback
I have quite a few similar photos taken with an actual DSLR but I ended up liking more this one taken on my phone without any planning so what can I say? Seize the moment? Follow your heart? Carpe diem? Just do it? Oh, and get a reflector. I wish I had one that day.
