Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken right out my back door, literally. This beautiful place is where I live, it's amazing all year around as we experience the beauty of all 4 seasons with the Rocky Mountains out the back door.

Time

This photo was taken in the evening, after it had stormed all day. The clouds just opening up, probably an hour or so before sunset. It was in the fall, so the sun goes down earlier at that time of year.

Lighting

The lighting is completely natural, the sun was coming through the clouds behind me and shining on the storm clouds ahead of me. It was quite a beautiful sight.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7000, with an 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

Clouds are very beautiful and interesting to me, storm clouds produce beautiful view, and with the added warm light from the lowering sun, it was a spectacular sight. I had to run inside to grab my camera so I wouldn't miss the shot.

Editing

I added mild color correcting since the light washed it out a bit, I wanted to bring the shadows back into it. But, I didn't have to adjust it much.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon, obviously. Now, I have an 18-200mm lens. I also have added an external flash to my collection, which I always bring along.

Feedback

Just have your camera close by, you never know when the sky is going to do something awesome, and usually it doesn't last long, so be quick!
