Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken at the Hoover Dam in Nevada.

Time

It was around 8:30 AM in the morning during early August.

Lighting

The early morning light was perfect. The sun was bright but not positioned so high that shadows were being cast.

Equipment

Taken with an iPhone 5c

Inspiration

The lighting was perfect with the reflection on the water. Loved the stratification on the rock face as it sunk below the waterline. The composition was as perfect as it could be. It was my first time seeing the Hoover Dam. I hadn’t planned to visit but was invited on an early morning trip out to the dam while attending a conference and I knew I likely would not be back again. I wanted a memorial picture. Everything just came together perfectly for me to get the amazing shot.

Editing

No. I really prefer my photos to be untouched.

Feedback

Ensure that the sun is in the right position and not casting shadows. Ensure you have a steady hand. Take several photos at slightly different angles. With the iPhone the tilt of the phone will affect the exposure.
