Behind The Lens
Location
Taken along I40 in New Mexico while chasing a powerful thunderstorm. An abandoned gas station caught my eye first for the composition, then i saw this house behind it.Time
The rain just passed through when i found this location and the sun was about to disappear below the horizon. I hurried with camera and tripod in hand and sloshed barefoot through ankle deep mud to get to the house.Lighting
I go to the house all muddy just in time to capture the light from the disappearing sun. I was happy that mother nature kept the firework show going.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5100 using a Tokina AT-X 11-20mm Pro DX Lens and a sturdy Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
When it comes to storms, i am like a little kid on Christmas morning. This composition was one i could not pass over, and i am glad that I found it.Editing
Minor post-processing on this image. Mostly balanced the contrast and slightly enhanced the colors to match what i saw.In my camera bag
Money has been an issue, but i work with what i got and can afford at this time. In my Lowepro Fastpak BP 250 AW II you will find a Nikon D5100, 11-20mm 2.8 Tokina lens, and a Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5 lens.Feedback
The key to capturing lightning is patience and trial and error. I was set to f11 and used my shutter release remote to experiment with the long exposure. Keep taking shots i mean a lot, then pick the one with the best lightning and work from there.
