Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my old town, we wanted a natural setting, so one afternoon, (it was still winter or early spring) so the light was not very harsh, i used a long lense, this image was one of the un-posed shots, and it worked so well!

Time

Probably about 4-6pm one afternoon...

Lighting

i was still new to photography and of camera flash, so i had a on camera flash, but with the yellowish "veld" it helped with the fill in light....

Equipment

Canon 350D, a 430EX flash, no tripod, cant remember the lens! and the camera was hand held!

Inspiration

i love negative spaces in a shot, really brings out the subject, she is a stunning girl and i find the only way to show it is by taking a shot without distractions, her expresion in this shot was just perfect!

Editing

Basic editing in lightroom 3 (or 2 i think?) cropping & light....

In my camera bag

Too much! haha canon 7D, 24mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8, 17-40mm f4, 70-200mm f4, 2 x 430ex flashes with phottix triggers, a godox 300 studio flash with a battery pack, soft box, beauty dish and a reflector.

Feedback

learnt in the last few years, plan the shoot, and carry minimal gear....your more mobile and when the shoot is flowing you dont have to stop to change lenses etc. i love my fixed lenses and natural light, keep your editing minimal, and as true as possible, tell your model what what you have in mind so that they know what you expect from them.
