I took this photo in my bedroom back when I'd live with a roomate in Lyon.Time
It was the beginning of the afternoon of July, on a Sunday, my boyfriend was going back to his place a few hours later, and the lighting was nice. I decided to do a photoshoot and to use him as my assistant.Lighting
It's all natural light. I love shooting in natural light and had the chance to have big windows that let me take photos at most time of the day. I loved that the light came from the side, I think it's really flattering.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3100 with his 18-55mm on my Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I've always loved nude or boudoir photos. However I had a few problems, I couldn't find people on my acquaintance that accepted to pose for me, or was too scared to asked people I didn't know and I thought I didn't had good enought locations or photography skills. I tought years ago about making selfportrait but wasn't comfortable with my body and it's much easier to shoot models that yourself for framming, focus... At the time I took this photo I was finally at peace with myself, happy with my body and decided that if I hadn't the stereotype kind of body that people like to see on boudoir photographs I didn't care. I was doing it for myself not for others. So I just took the lighting and having the help of my boyfriend as an opportunity to finally do it. I'm glad I did because I really like how some of those photos turned out, especially this one.Editing
I did my usual which is not much. I always shoot in Raw and then play a bit with levels and curves on photoshop, that's it.In my camera bag
I changed my equipment quite recently, I used to have my Nikon D3100 with his 18-55mm as well as a 70-300mm from Tamron. Now I still have the tamron, but my camera is a Nikon D5200, with a 18-105mm as well as a 10-24mm. Of course I also have my tripod, batteries, and SD cards.Feedback
The first thing I would say is that your model needs to be comfortable otherwise it will show in the photo. Soft, side light is really flattering, but you can play with all king of light ( hard, natural, studio...) depending on what effects you want. The most important is to do it, try, even if you don't think you're not skilled enough or you don't have the perfect enviroment, just try it, you might surprised yourself. What do you have to loose ?
