Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Liestal, Switzerland. It’s an event during carnival, just before the more famous Basel carnival.

Time

It was around 8 pm

Lighting

Light was very tricky. Due to the big fires and the deep dark night contrasts was very high and difficult to manage. It took me lots of shots to understand and also to avoid too long exposure times.

Equipment

Canon EOS 5d Mark III Canon EF 50 mm f/1.2L

Inspiration

My goal was to document this unique tradition, I had no idea how and where to take the best pictures. As consequence the pictures was mostly spontaneous, taking most chances when people was stopping to take a breath.

Editing

Post processing was takennto smoothen a little bit the contrasts and reduce noise. Also a few little spots to correct and also cropping was very important.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Canon EF 70-200 mm f/2.8L Canon EF 16-35 mm f/2.8L Canon EF 50 mm f/1.2L Manfrotto tripod Canon remote trigger Backup battery Polarizer and some ND/GND filters

Feedback

Don’t be afraid to push up the ISO. In such situations is better to have more noise instead of blurry pictures.
