Where I live in Nova Scotia, there is an abundance of abandoned homes left to ruin for any number reasons. The most probable cause is the loss of an industry but your imagination holds just as probable a cause. I have a tremendous amount of respect for these spaces that once harboured life, love, and stories. Of course, visually they are arresting with their weathered patina and windows missing like hollowed sockets. These derelict spaces have the power to disturb, as they speak to directly to a primitive need for shelter. They serve as a reminder of our own impermanence and the importance of being here now.
