Faileas Air Baile A'Chaolais - Shadow on Ballachulish
Opening the hotel window to look out one evening before dinner last September caused me to encounter this view. With no time or space for tripods with the last glimmer of sun on the mountain tops only going to last minutes, I managed only 4 shots leaning on the velux window for support.
Sunlight on the summits of Sgorr Nam Fiannaidh (Rocky Peak of the Fian Warriers) and Na Gruagaichean (The Maidens), brought back memories of climbing the latter on a day of great weather in May 1995. Unfortunately, that was before the digital revolution took hold and a cheap 35mm film compact was all I had in the rucksack. Over 20 years later, a full-frame digital file is a lot better!
No sun on Sgorr Na Ciche, the Pap of Glencoe though and the bit which is in sunlight isn't part of it, as noted above.
The exposure differential was wide, with deep shadow on the foreground and very bright sunlight on the tops. Two images of 1-60th second at f11 with the lens at 47mm are stitched together here as a panorama and processed in Lightroom CC.
