My trip to the Taj Mahal was conveniently on my route home from a business trip in Kanpur. I had to take the opportunity for a few snaps of one of the most beautiful places in the world.
My passion for photography has really excelled the past 6 months thanks to lessons and my new Canon EF 35mm f-2 IS USM Lens. I was really excited to put my lessons and new kit into practice but my main aim was to capture a unique photo.
The Taj Mahal is one of the most photographed buildings in the world and I had been keeping my eye out for a really unique shot. This photo was taken in the Mehtab Bagh gardens which is a great spot to view the Taj Mahal at sunset.
My Camera was set up on the tripod (which I had to pay a £2 bribe to get in!) to capture the Taj Mahal at sunset when I noticed a young Indian boy playing with his pet goat (called Nicky!) in the grass behind me. I thought “this will make a great shot if I could somehow capture the boy, the goat and the Taj”. After taking a few landscape shots of the Taj Mahal at sunset, I turned around and the boy and the goat had gone. I thought I had missed my opportunity but my luck was in!
About 20 minutes later when I was walking back to my taxi I noticed the boy sat on the wall admiring the sunset with his best friend, Nicky the Goat. I have heard that photography is all about luck and patience and this was certainly my lucky day! I managed to take a few photos of the boy and goat in a range of natural positions but this shot was my favourite as it shows a great bond between the 2 with one of the most beautiful backgrounds in the world.
I have only been pursuing photography for about 6 months and am really happy that I managed to capture such a unique shot. Hopefully when my skills and equipment improve further I can find the boy and Nicky again and ask for a re-run!
