Behind The Lens
Location
This shot was taken at a wildlife resort near my hometown.Time
It was around noon in mid April. Normally not the best time of the day because of the hard light, but there were trees it worked out just fine.Lighting
The light came from the front right, therefore it was challenging, but the lynx was fixating me with his eyes and I just needed to go for it anyway.Equipment
It was shot on an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk. I with the Leica 100-400mm lens.Inspiration
It was that moment that the lynx seems to be relaxed but dangerous at the same time due to being able to jump at me at the very next moment. Wild animals are always challenging because they don't care about you taking pictures.Editing
Because of the shadows coming from the trees the lynx´s head was darker than the rest of the body, therefore I needed to even it out. And the eyes have been brightened to get that unique fixating look that really makes it pop while you look at it.In my camera bag
I'm living in a city, so most of the time I leave with a 7-14mm f/2.8 wide angle lens and a 12-100mm f/4.0 allrounder. Sometimes accompanied by a 7.5mm Fisheye because I really dig that look. When I go out to shoot animals I go long with my lens, like the Leica 100-400mm to keep my distance and not to scare them away but get as close as possible at the same time.Feedback
Wildlife resorts are a great possibility to see animals that would normally never show up during day time if you're out in the woods, sometimes that's a good thing! because I´d rather run than take pictures if I'm face to face with a lynx in the wild. Try always to get on eye level with the animals and keep calm and quiet. And predators are more likely to check you out if you're coming closer, it's just a normal habit which will work in your favor to get a nice headshot.
