The photo was taken in my back yard. I have a lot of pets and my favourite thing to do in my spare time is take pictures of them.Time
It was a late afternoon. I was playing outside with my pets and I couldn't help but take some pictures, and this one is my favourite on that day.Lighting
Since it was a late afternoon, the sun was already quite low so there wasn't any harsh lighting so that's why it made my job easier.Equipment
For this shot I used a Nikon D5000 camera, with a focal length of 55mm, no flash and f/5.6.Inspiration
I always love taking pictures of my pets, when I'm away from home for a while I like looking through them. This particular dog was a new addition to our family. My father and brother rescued him from the side of a forest nearby, he was obviously left there by someone, just a baby. Since we're all animal lovers we decided to take him in. And when I took this picture he was trying to get to know me so I took it while he was looking up at me, I swear he was smiling.Editing
I didn't do much post-processing, but since it was shadowy outside, I increased the saturation and the contrast a little bit. Other than that, I played around with the temperature until it reached the real look.In my camera bag
My camera bag is always packed and ready to go, with the battery charged. What I normally have in my bag is my Nikon D5000 camera, a 18-55mm lens, that I use mostly for landscape photography; and a 55-300mm lens for close-ups. An extra memory card is always good idea, too. Recently I added a remote for my camera and a glass ball for more creative photography as well as a Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic + a box for those pictures. That's a heavy bag.Feedback
As you can imagine, dogs don't tend to just stand still and wait for you to take a bunch of pictures of them, unless they're sleeping. That's why I suggest being on the lookout for what they do. As you can see the angle, I'm looking down at the dog, I was playing with him and got my camera ready and snapped a photo the second he looked up at me. Small pups especially are very energetic and it's hard to get their attention but you can do it. You can always dangle a treat next to the camera so they look up. However pets tend to be curious as well so they may look right into your camera when they see it, especially when it starts moving, so you have to be ready to snap the photo, otherwise they'll move on to something else, since they have a short attention span. Conclusion: be ready, get their attention, adjust settings in advance, don'e overthink it.
