Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this photo in the Catskill mountains in Elka Park, New York.

Time

This pic was taken just afternoon on a beautiful winters day.

Lighting

The lighting was really good as far as midday goes because it was overcast, so nothing terribly hard about that.

Equipment

This was shot with my old Canon 20d with a small 28-200mm f3.5-5.6

Inspiration

I had been watching a couple of red breasted nuthatches on some crabapple trees in front of my house, and to be honest it was my first day ever out shooting with my recently acquired canon 20d, so i decided that they would make good subjects because they were fairly tame and very intent on getting their food so as not to notice me. This shot is where my passion for bird photography started!

Editing

I cropped it a bit and tweaked the contrast and light a tiny bit using the installed photo editor on windows 7. Really not much.

In my camera bag

In my bag i have currently a canon eos 40d with 2 lenses. First and foremost, i have my Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens, and then i carry my old canon 28-200mm f3.5-5.6. I also always carry a couple extra batteries and some binoculars for bird identification.

Feedback

keep your shutter speed as fast as posible because these birds are small and fast!
