SURVIVAL

Water is essential for us, we can live for a few days without food but not without water. This is the Zanskar Valley in the Ladakh region and here both the minimum and maximum temperatures are below zero and the running water freezes. Temperatures plummet to -35 Deg C in the night, imagine, running water freezes.

The person in the photograph is a local Zanskari, a cook and a porter. Salute to this person fetching water for cooking. The place where this person is standing is a sheet of ice known as Chadar, although this Chadar is thick but is not uniform, a little mistake and you fall in sub-zero water with the surrounding temperatures also sub-zero and all this person is doing is for his SURVIVAL and this means our survival because we were travelling with him.
