Drooping saxifrage (Saxifraga cernua)

This is the second day of August, and the first burst of flowering is over which is evident everywhere I look in the form of seed production and decaying inflorescences. Yet there are so many species flowering now that I see flowers everywhere. Albeit not from afar, as this is the High Arctic where many flowers are so tiny I even have a hard time getting close enough with my macro lens. This species is not one of those and will definitely catch your eye.

Some species past their prime flowering season in the lower elevations might also be found in bloom on the higher elevations, so the summer in Svalbard is an amazing place for those that appreciate the flora.

This species is common in Svalbard and the high arctic, has a large range and is also found in the mountains and arctic regions of Scandinavia.
