Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Italy, the landscape depicted here belongs Lago San Domenico (Abruzzo region) - we had a short trip to check out the sights but was unable to reach all of them in an optimal time of day.

Time

The sun was just setting when we arrived here, but we had more to see so we decided to continue our road trip after a short 10 minutes.

Lighting

No filters, sunset was a cloudy one.

Equipment

Camera - Canon 70D, 18-55mm no IS canon lens, tripod, no flash, no filter.

Inspiration

I was looking for a colourfull sunset but had to make the best of what I got - a cloudy, colourless sky.

Editing

I like to keep PP to a minimum as the image I mentally captured must correspond exactly with what I want to show the viewer. Lightroom was used for small lighting/contrast correction and I always make sure to have clean images so I reduce the fringe/chromatic abberation from the lens correction profiles to the minimum.

In my camera bag

My 70D at the moment goes with my 50mm f1.4 for close-ups, portraits, low light and landscape photos, my 18-55mm lens to capture landscapes from close and for other purpouses (swirly bokeh or other effects) my Helios 58mm f2 lens. I also had a 11-16mm Tokina but after I dropped it,, it became a tilt shift lens with no AF and only functional at f2.8

Feedback

If possible, check out the weather conditions a few days in a row before your programmed shooting, program your arrival sooner so if you're late you have some headroom. Ideally you would like to spend a few days on the spot to check out all the better angles.
