This photo was a serendipitious moment for me because I spent hours trying to create a feeling I felt while I was growing up. The feeling of feeling of being alone even though, I had siblings and toys to play with. I still couldn't help but feel like I was always by myself.
After hours of trying to create the moment I ended my photo shoot and just went through the hundreds of hundreds of photos I had and found this one.
It spoke to me and brought back all the memories of feeling alone.

This photo was taken in my daughter’s room when we lived in Sunny San Diego, CA. I was a photography student and I was working on a Contemporary Art assignment using photographyTime
This photo was taken hours before my Contemporary Art assignment was due. It was almost high noon and I was freaking out about the harsh sun light.Lighting
I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do my lighting for this situation because I intended for this photo to be shot outside using natural lighting. I did rent some strobes in case. They weren’t used though. It was all natural light.Equipment
Tripod. Canon 5D. Light meter. Props were already at home.Inspiration
Growing up I had siblings and cousins to hang out with, but still felt alone and empty. I wanted to create that, but my daughter was an only child at the time. She had a never-ending toy supply though. I sprayed and prayed for this assignment because My other shoots didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to. So I created a rush photo shoot.Editing
Yes. Little adjustments like adding a sepia tone. Adjusting the whites and highlights. They were just too harsh because I shot this right before noon when the sun is at its highest. In my camera bag
My camera. Light meter. Sketch book to quickly jot down a lighting setup I would like to do or recreate at a later time. ND filters. Off Camera flash.Feedback
My advice is to stay true to your style of photography. I have shied away from photography because my style isn’t like what my instructors wanted or it wasn’t what my classmates style. My photography is my art. It’s meant to express my mood and provoke a thought, feeling, or mood for the viewer.
