Djuma is a part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa . This is one of my happy places in the world. The bush and its sounds and smells. This is a Privte safari camp. Djuma is also a place where they do there are regular broadcasts form for National geographic ' Safari Live ' This lion is one of the ' Birmingham boys 'Time
While doing our afternoon drive in the South African winter - The golden hour is always spectacular . In this that beautiful golden hour we came across this 'King of the jungle'. As it was winter with all the golden colours in the trees and the sun casting more gold on the King , it was being at the right place at the right timeLighting
The golden light form the afternoon sun cast the right shades on all the surrounding bush and lionEquipment
The photo was shot with a 7D and 100-400 Canon lens . It was shot hand help off the back of a safari vehicleInspiration
He was lying there with a very satisfied look on his face , and actually like he was posing for us . I just wanted to capture the 'Moment '., and it worked - the gold , the orange - all the autumn colors just makes it specialEditing
I shoot in raw and use light room for cropping when necessary ( as I was taught, you can cut away but never add !!) on this picture I changed the exposure a bit as I was shooting directly into the sunIn my camera bag
I have loads of compact cards - I never want to not be able to take a pic because my card is full. I carry a 50 mm lens , 100-400 , and my happy lens 24-135 mm.Feedback
I am really just an amateur and this gives me the ' time to smell the roses ' as we all live such rushed lives . All I can suggest to anybody enjoy the moment = Some will come out good and some not . So it is really about the fun you have while taking the picture which becomes part of the memory when you look at the result. I had a fabulous time in the park and I think it comes out in the pictures taken
