I took this picture last year Battery Park in the historic district of New Castle Delaware along the Delaware river. This is all that remains of the old historic pier where William Penn first stepped onto American soil. This town is amazing! The houses, pubs, restaurants, B & Bs and inns, and even the roads are still the original cobble stone and the sidewalks are covered in the same old bricks from the 18th century. Once a year, the good people of historic New Castle Delaware and have an open house event where they open their homes to the general public to tour. Many of the home owners will dress, speak and act like they were from that time. Its alot of fun.

It was founded by Peter Stuyvesant in 1651 who was sent here by the Dutch to watch over things and keep all waterways safe and under the control of the Netherlands. For some time after, it changed hands and there have been various other countries flags flying here. In 1682, William Penn landed at old Newcastle to survey the 3 counties he was granted and add them to his sizable "Penns Lands." By 1704, the residents of the 3, well established counties became dissatisfied with Penns rule. Therefore, he decided to grant them their own legislature and New Castle became the colonial Capitol of Delaware. The water shown is the Delaware river which has been a very active ship route for centuries. The likes of Capt. Kidd, Bluebeard, Blackbeard and loads of other famous pirates, privateers, politicians, ship captains, dignitaries, etc...
