Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a mountain in the Namibian desert. I really enjoyed the way the undisturbed sand was casting shadows from the setting sun.

Time

This photo was taken at sunset. I was out on a safari where we were tracking the endangered rhinos in Namibia. We were moving to the next camp the following morning so we went up onto a mountain to enjoy our last sunset at that location. I caught this photo right as the sun was going down behind the mountain.

Lighting

This entire safari and the photos I took were a great experience. Namibia is truly a place of beauty.

Equipment

This was taken with my simple canon mega zoom camera. Nothing too fancy as we were moving often and I needed to travel light.

Inspiration

The small camp we were staying at was the only form of civilization for miles and I believe that shows in this undisturbed sand that had been touched by nothing but the wind for who knows how long and the fact of that really makes it even more amazing.

Editing

The only post-processing was some play on brightness and contrast to make the shadows in the sand against the setting sun more visible.

In my camera bag

I am not a professional so I usually only keep my cannon and a small simple trypod.

Feedback

The advise I would give is to get low to the ground to get more detail. And to make sure you are not over exposing when shooting into the sun in this manner.
