These are baby hatchling Loggerhead Turtles. Every year the adult female comes to our shores of Mon Repos. And oh what a struggle. They find a dune and dig .. and dig... and dig... once done they lay about 100 or so ping pong ball size eggs. Then a few months later out hatch these tiny little ones. There journey back to sea is also not any easy one but oh what a sight to see. Once in the sea it is a fight for survival. It is a must see to our region especially around Christmas time... it is summer here people are out and about eating fish and chips besides the sea and quite often mama turtles will be spotted at any one of our beaches. The rangers are called and those eggs that are laid are moved to a safer spot.
