Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in my home bathroom (has a skylight!). I am a self-taught photographer who enjoys making the ordinary look interesting.

Time

Midday the sun comes into the skylight best, so was a good time to take the shot.

Lighting

Natural light is the best for photographs as far as I am concerned. If I can use natural light in my shots, I will do it first before studio lighting.

Equipment

I have a Nikon and a Canon and use polarizing filters a lot. Always bring some extra food like granola bars and some water if you are out taking shots.

Inspiration

Simply put, the top hat. It is a brown color, not the usual black, so it made for a softer more subtle photo perfect for sepia.

Editing

Turned it into a black and white and then put a sepia tone to it.

In my camera bag

Tripod, cameras, filters and food.

Feedback

Experiment with your shots, don't be afraid to mess them up. Sometimes a tricky accidental shot will come out the absolute best!
