Location
Westfield Heron Reserve, Kelmscott, Perth, Western Australia. Its just down the road from where I live and is part of my afternoon walk.Time
mid afternoon to get the maximum infrared light at the right angle. I have walked around this lake many times to watch the light change.Lighting
Mid afternoon daylight to get the maximum amount of infrared light from the sun on the landscape in the right direction.Equipment
Pentax K10 that has been modified to shoot in the infrared range from 680nm to 1000nm. The internal hot filter has been removed and 680nm filter put in place to block out most of the visible light spectrum. A Pentax DAL35mm lens is closest to a 'normal' lens on the apsc format on the DSLR and it gives a nice perspective.Inspiration
I walk around this lake often, its peaceful and changeable and always presents something new for me. I like the way the the infrared camera renders tones in near mono and when the light is right shows up the green leaves as pale but not always. Its unpredictability is a bit like the old film days, never quite know what you will get till you've got it on screen.Editing
Quite often I will do HDR from a RAW to get a bit more detail in the full range of tones but this image just needed a little adjustment in curves as it was near enough to perfect for me.In my camera bag
I have different bags for different occasions but on this walk all I had was the Pentax K10 with the DAL35 lens. When im travelling in 4wd I have a Pentax K3 with 18-200, 28-300, 10-24, Pentax FA 50mm macro and 8mm fisheye, medium weight tripod. the IR camera comes along as well and Is interchangeable with any lens.Feedback
