Kilarc Powerhouse is more than 100 years old and was integral in the early power development of Shasta County. It is also one of the few remaining stone powerhouses in California.

Kilarc, located in Whitmore, was originally built to supply additional power to the Mountain Copper Co. smelter at Keswick and as a back-up power plant for the Volta Powerhouse.

Kilarc was the second powerhouse in a chain of six built by Hamden H. Holmes to supply hydroelectric power to the smelters at Mountain Copper Co. at Keswick.
