Flash is a hackney pony rescued from a home where he had been poorly fed and had terrible living conditions to the point where the owners wanted to have him euthanized, but did not want to pay the cost of it. So he suffered in a muddy pen with very little food and very little love. H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut stepped up to take in the young pony, knowing that it would be a miracle if they could restore his health.
The organization is celebrating its 35th year this year, and has saved over 700 lives. They are not strangers to working with what seem to be hopeless situations. Flash, the "Christmas Miracle Pony" was brought in to the rescue in November 2015, and managed to survive Connecticut's tough winter. He started his journey at H.O.R.S.E. skiddish and unable to walk. Several farriers and vets made multiple efforts to fix Flash's issues, one thing at a time.
Before long, he could be seen running through the field after Summer, a rescued mare he was rooming with. Flash also learned that there are people who love him. Jordan, shown in the photo above, is one of the organization's dedicated volunteers who spent a lot of time with Flash throughout his journey to recovery. After trying many different options to help him feel as comfortable as possible, eventually there was not much more that anyone could do. Flash was put to rest in May of 2016.
