The Hill of Crosses is a site of pilgrimage about 12 km north of the city of Šiauliai, in northern Lithuania. The precise origin of the practice of leaving crosses on the hill is uncertain, but it is believed that the first crosses were placed on the former Jurgaičiai or Domantai hill fort after the 1831 Uprising. Over the generations, not only crosses and crucifixes, but statues of the Virgin Mary, carvings of Lithuanian patriots and thousands of tiny effigies and rosaries have been brought here by Catholic pilgrims. The exact number of crosses is unknown, but estimates put it at about 55,000 in 1990 and 100,000 in 2006.

This photo was taken at a place called "Hill of Crosses" - LithuaniaTime
I don't remember very well, I think it was in the morning, by 09 or 10 a.m.Lighting
Although there were some clouds in that summer day of July, the light was good and we could see well every piece on that hill.Equipment
At that time I was using my older Olympus digital camera VG-160. No need of flash and I had no tripod then,Inspiration
This place was incredible. It impressed me too much, mainly after knowing the story: an old farmer's son was very ill and doctors said they couldn't do anything for him. So, the poor man went to this hill and prayed for days, promising to God that, if his son is cured of the disease, he would put a big cross there and would pray there every day. The young boy was cured and the promise fulfilled. Now, that place is a sacred one as many people go there to ask for something and make promises too. But those promises are always crosses of all sizes and types.Editing

As an amateur, I always take with me my newest compact camera Canon Powershot SX730 HS, my mobile Sony E5603, a Canon compact camera Powershot SX710 HS and my older camera Olympus VG-160, some extra batteries and, sometimes 2 small tripods (one of them is a “Gorillapod”).Feedback
Who am I to give any good advice to others? The only think I can say is that, if you like something, look and shoot. Take into consideration the perspective and light. Photography always start in our mind.
