Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a trail near my home in Rhode Island, USA. I had just moved to the area and was eager to explore my surroundings, capturing anything I considered interesting or beautiful.

Time

I arrived at the park in the early afternoon. It was on my route home from a barn in a neighboring town, where I had been volunteering at a therapeutic riding program, and as I was driving by I happened to notice the entrance, slightly offset from the road and tucked away in a barrier of trees, and decided to investigate.

Lighting

I wanted the image to be bright and uplifting, and to reflect the natural vibrancy of the flower petals and leaves in the background.

Equipment

Unfortunately I am currently lacking any camera or equipment besides the one in my phone, so I took it with the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Inspiration

I am fascinated by the diversity we can see in nature, whether it be flowers, trees, insects... I was walking on this trail for the first time, admiring the tiger lilies interspersed among the daisies, clover, raspberry bushes, and tall grass. They seemed to be towering over the other plants, while their faces were angled downwards; to me this gave them a regal and protective character.

Editing

I did not do any post-processing on this particular image.

In my camera bag

I don't often bring a bag!

Feedback

Look for opportunities even in what might seem like an ordinary, mundane setting. Experiment with angles. Go to a place you've never been, it helps to see with a new perspective.
