Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my living room. In spring time. My daughter found 5 kittens approximately 2 weeks old at the side of our carport. Hidden under a plough (we had put it away and greased all the parts so it would not rust). The kittens were covered in grease and were starving. She heard the kittens faint meowing. We noticed a dead cat on the road way. Must have been struck by a passing vehicle. My daughter bathed them in Dawn dish soap. We hand fed them milk from a tiny bottle few times that evening.Once their bellies were full they slept all night.

Time

This was after 6pm. We had just come home from work.

Lighting

Not much natural light coming thru the window too dark.

Equipment

Canon 60d with a18-135mm zoom lense 3.5-5.6. Used my speed light 580ex to assist in brightening the kitten. No tripod used.

Inspiration

We took photos to post on Facebook. We know of a lady who takes in baby animals and looks after them till they are old enough to go to good homes. She has mother cats who sometimes feeds the orphan kittens. The next day we were contacted as the woman found 2 ladies who would take them.

Editing

Very little post processing. I adjusted the lighting and cropped the picture. That was it!

In my camera bag

I have canon 60d, speed lite 580 ex, also canon 70-200mm zoom lense, and 75-300mm zoom lense. I was fortunate to pick up a used mark 5d ii with 50mm 1.2 kit lense. Totally different cameras. I love using flowers and bugs to try out different settings. Learn something new each day!

Feedback

I like to shoot natural photos not posed ones. It takes patience. Trying to get that great shot! The kittens were very active at first until they tuckered themselves out. Just trying different angles to get a good picture. I like to watch videos and read up on tips given by the pros! They inspire me to want to take beautiful pictures. Practice, practice.
