Location
This image was captured during a workshop in Ireland, in the woods near Ballagh Isheen, on the Dingle peninsula.Time
The image was captured late morning, on a misty, foggy day. The conditions we perfect for this type of shot, as the mist created a diffuse light that enhanced the green moss in the forest.Lighting
Beautiful, subtle light created by the cool, misty and damp conditions. It was like walking around with a giant diffuser.Equipment
Image was captured with a PhaseOne XF medium format camera, IQ260 digital back, 55mm Schneider lens, Manfrotto tripod. Natural light, f2.8, ISO50, 1/8 second.Inspiration
I'd been shooting broad landscapes and vistas for several days. The forest and beautiful diffuse light drew me to a more intimate composition. I happened upon this tree, set apart from the others, and was captivated by the large knot-hole in the center. It just called out for a centered composition.Editing
Very little post processing in this image. Some slight exposure adjustments and a subtle vignette applied in CaptureOne, PhaseOne's RAW processor. In my camera bag
My favorite camera is my PhaseOne XF body, IQ3100MP digital back, and Schneider blue-ring lenses. I also carry a Really Right Stuff tripod and ball head. Simply the best. I have this kit with me whenever I travel for serious photography.Feedback
Its always good to step out of your comfort zone from time to time!
