Behind The Lens

Location

This beautiful feathered friend was photographed on the Indian River in Cocoa Beach, Fl. We were on a riverboat ride taking in the beautiful morning when we suddenly look over and this beautiful Pelican was standing there like it was posing! lol At first, we thought it was an ornament since it stood perfectly still. We later realized as it took of to catch some fish that it was not a statue, but in fact a perfect and beautiful gift of nature for us to enjoy..

Time

The photo was taken at about 10:30 in the morning on a bright and sunny day at the end of June this year...

Lighting

The lighting was very bright as it was broad daylight and the water reflected it very much with the pounding sun. But, a little re-positioning and playing with the settings made it all worth it..

Equipment

I used my Lumix FZ40 point and shoot camera for this one as it was the only camera I was carrying. It's a very good camera at least for me and I always have it with me. I like how it feels and all the things you can do with it without carrying around tons of equipment.

Inspiration

We were just having a nice day out as part of Father's Day celebration and I always take my point and shoot everywhere I go, habit..lol. And we were having coffee looking around on the boat and when I turned to look to my side, this beauty was just sitting there! In all it's perfection!

Editing

I really love crisp black and whites and bright colored photos. I usually play up the contrast a bit and the saturation, shadows and highlights. That's pretty much it for this and most of my photos.

In my camera bag

I have a Nikon D3300 with a 18 - 55 mm - f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR II lens that I've been using for awhile and I like for now, But, somehow, whenever I end up shooting a photo that I really like, it ends up being with my Lumix FZ40 point and shoot camera! lol I don't know why but no matter how I plan them, the pictures that I set up and take all the equipment for never end up being my favorites. The surrounding and situations while carrying my Lumix always seem to be better and more to my liking. I also carry in my bag a Sunpak Ultra 7000 tri-monopod that I rarely use, a Sunpak 1818XL tabletop tripod that I mostly use and a Sunpak PZ42X TTL flash.

Feedback

Just Shoot! Whenever you see something that catches your eye, shoot it! Many of my favorite photos have been taken without setting or changing anything on the camera because there was no time, it was happening then! You'd be surprised how many turn out awesome with just a little post editing!
