Behind The Lens

Location

I live and work for two years and a half in Japan. When I leave the workplace, always I hold in my hand the camera. Turning the corner there is always a go come of people: students, travelers, workers who head or come from Hiroshima station. Here, I am in the Sheraton Hotel, opposite the station.

Time

if I remember correctly, it was almost 4 pm in June. At that time of day the sun is very strong and it is very hot. Summer was coming and with it, the month of the rainy season (June). It was one of the last sunny days.

Lighting

I am not a professional but an amateur who has just started. However, one of the fundamentals when it is poorly equipped is to shoot from shadow to light. I have not thought about it at that time. However, I was in the right situation.

Equipment

Usually I use a voigtlander Bessa R3M with a 40mm F1.4 Nokton. But this was taken using a leica M2 always with Nokton 40mm. Alternating the use of these two bodies. Using Fujifilm Across 100 asa and kodak 400TX push to 800. Sometimes I use some color films as Ektar100 or Fujifilm Provia 100.

Inspiration

People. Places. Although they may always be the same. But people change. The Japanese people are very interesting. And even difficult to photograph. Again, when I brought the camera to the eye, the girl on the left, he was accelerating the steps. It realized that I was photographing. Fortunately, it is a wide-angle 40 mm.

Editing

Development at home, only the negative with Rodinal / Adonal of Adox. If I could have more space, I would like to print at least the contact sheets. A very interesting part of the entire photographic process.

In my camera bag

I do not have much equipment. Before going out, usually, I prepare the camera with the lens that I decide to bring. It may be the Nokton 40 mm, 90 mm apo-lanthar or jupiter 8 50mm. However, do not use only 35 mm. Shooting even with the 120 medium format. I have some holga 120 and a Rolleiflex MX with Tessar 75 mm. The days that I'm in home from work, if I have nothing else to do I prepare the bag with more equipment and a couple of films in more.

Feedback

I repeat. Are only an amateur and sometimes, it happens a small fluke. I do not think I can give advice. Variants and the conditions are so many. Taken as more you like, with the means that you are feeling more to master.
