Behind The Lens

Location

I took this walking home from work one evening. I live in a little village by the coast, it's a wonderful walk full of views and big skies.

Time

This was about 10.30pm, at the height of summer. It stayed light until 11.30. The coastal view from my house was fantastic, the colour slowly bleeding away from the sky as the sea shimmered an unearthly white.

Lighting

I am a big believer in natural light. If it looks great naturally, all the better for a picture for me. That might have something to do with not wanting to pay out for, or carry, lighting rigs!

Equipment

This was taken with my Galaxy Note 4. Amazing camera for a phone!

Inspiration

I love lines, you might notice that from my other images. I like a crisp line, an interesting colourscape or wild, verdant nature. This image has all three! My favourite part of this is the sunset reflected in the rails. Amazing!

Editing

I don't tend to post-process. Partly down to lack of experience, mainly because I like a great photo to be great because it's naturally spot on.

In my camera bag

All I carry is my camera-phone. I hope there aren't too many howls of shock/anger/mocking laughter!

Feedback

Balance. Take your time, breath calmly and if you can, try to find something to rest on, as I did (a wall). The Sky won't turn off in the next 30 seconds, so relax and make sure your images in centred and level as best you can. Also, keep your eyes open. There's great pictures everywhere!
