Ja, bij de vorige spreker moet ik me helemaal aansluiten. Een foto met behoorlijke impact, met een perfect gedoseerde omgeving. Prachtige plaat.

Beautiful mono image. Love the contrast of the city in the background with the young seagull in the foreground. He is stood and moving in a really interesting way. Very well captured. Great composition again!

Love your photo, however, Gulls are not true pelagic birds and your submitted photo will not be considered for the Pelagic Bird Species Peer Challenge.

We all pay the price for the stupidity of some of our fellow human beings. You made a very powerful statement.

I took this photo in the beautiful old harbour of Cascais, Portugal.Time
Itt was about 2 pm, I was showing the beautiful coast between Lisbon and Sintra to my best friend when I saw this wounded Sea Gull sitting on a pole in the harbour of Cascais.Lighting
As allways in Portugal it was a very sunny day and I was trying not to burn my whites but still showing a big sunsplash over the city in the background.Equipment
I didn't use any equipment except for my wonderful Lumix DMC TZ60, a great pocket camera wich practically fits in your back pocket. The best thing about this camera is the Leica lens. I recently bought the DMC TZ100, an even better camera with endless possibillities for shooting automatically or manually. I shot this photo free out of hand, hanging over the quay to avoid distracting boats and lines.Inspiration
I saw this Sea Gull sitting on a pole in the harbour of Cascais, moving slowly... When I came closer I saw that the Gull lifted its leg constantly. The poor Sea Gull was shot and had a broken arrow high in its leg. I was waiting for that dramatic pose wich showed the arrow and the city behind the bird, full of people who appeared to be its enemy... While she was covering the city with her beautiful wings, she was dying.Editing
I did some post-processing, originally I took this photo in color but the result was not good enough so I converted it in Black and White. I played a little with some light and shadow in Lightroom to make the Sea Gull stand out more and of course I cropped the photo. In my camera bag
I don't have a bag with equipment (yet) At this point in my wonderful hobby I take the world as it comes... I allways carry my Lumix pocket camera with me and don't plan or arrange any of my photos. I am shooting spontaniously trying to learn and understand this great hobby! A good eye, love for the world we live in and a creative mind is all I take with me.Feedback
If you try to make a nice composition of a bird on a pole I think it's better to place the bird above the horizon to get the focus on the subject. Try to avoid distracting items from the foreground as well as the background. The background is very important to support your subject, so I allways try to give it a lot of attention! I was taking a lot of photos of the Gull trying to figure out the best point of view. I started from a distance and slowly I came closer and closer to make the bird feel at ease with my presence. Then I waited for that one pose I was hoping for... I allways shoot a wider shot and crop it later in different ways, trying to figure out the best composition. Then, the folowing day I choose the best one with a fresh look or make more adjustments...
